ANYHOO.
One night during the Winter Break, when I woke up at 2 am in a near panic which is not that uncommon during The Change , I thought HEY! It might be a good idea to move my home office out into the playroom.
So I did. And it's been great. It's nice to have a 10-second commute from my home to my home office. And I like being away from the signs of home and into the signs of outdoors.
A bit o' background. We have a 400 sq foot "playroom" at the back of our detached garage. When we first moved in, it was a storage area.
Dave remodeled it.
It was my home office when Conor was born.
Then we remodeled the house and had the twins. We were very tired.
I took a very small room off the bedroom as my office and we (eventually) turned the back of the garage into a playroom.
The playroom stayed clean for about 1 week. Then everything exploded in it. Once the kids made a blanket fort and to get to the fridge in that back corner was essentially a parkour course.
Last year, we did another remodel adding in sturdy flooring to handle the kids and some decor to make it inviting.
And the kids used it, but not as much as I thought they would.
And then that sleepless night. And I thought: I need something new. I need to switch up my routine. So I moved my home office out here.
So, yes! It has been nearly 10 years since I've used this space as my office but I'm so happy to be back here. I like having a 10-second commute. I know it doesn't seem like much, but it's a great boundary to separate my work from my home. I like seeing nature out of the windows but having my back to all the "fun" parts of this room.
Jules, who cannot leave my side even when I shower, is still getting used to it.
But I think she enjoys being "outside," too, based on the increased number of zoomies and squirrel chasing she is doing.
So, yeah. Some changes I don't feel I can control and I don't like, such as waking up at 3:30 am this morning and not getting back to sleep. But some changes, which I can control, actually feel pretty cool.
